NEWGATE PRISONERS' DIET , 1817.

NEWGATE JAIL
Dietary for 1817
 
Breakfast for male prisoners
 
8 ozs of bread
1 pint of oatmeal gruel
Seasoned on alternate days with molasses and salt
 
Breakfast for female prisoners
 
Same as male diet, with the exception that they have 6 ozs instead of 8 ozs of bread.
 
Dinner
 
On Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday
The males and females have 3 ozs of cooked meat without bone, 8 ozs of bread and
Half a pound of potatoes.
On Monday, Wednesday and Friday
They have a pint of soup and 8 ozs of bread.
The soup contains 3 ozs of meat with vegetables
The females have 6 ozs of bread instead of 8 ozs.
 
Supper
 
The same as breakfast.
